Ohio Community School Distributing Statement

Welcome to Youngstown Community School. As required by law, we are providing the following statement to notify you of the legal status and requirements that apply to your child’s enrollment in our school.

Public School Designation:
Youngstown Community School is a public community school established under Chapter 3314 of the Ohio Revised Code. It is not a private school, but a public entity that operates independently while being subject to all applicable state educational laws and oversight.

State Testing Requirements:
All students enrolled at Youngstown Community School are required to participate in state-mandated assessments, including proficiency tests, diagnostic assessments, and other evaluations as required by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.

Compulsory Attendance:
As a public school, compulsory attendance laws apply. Students are legally required to attend school on a regular basis unless excused for lawful reasons as defined by Ohio law. Attendance is critical to academic success.

Termination of Home Education Exemption:
If your child was previously exempt from compulsory school attendance due to participation in a home education program, please be advised that this exemption no longer applies upon enrollment in Youngstown Community School.
